Victorian Vicarage - Family Room

The Brief: To link two interconnecting rooms to create a fun but smart and practical family room which can also used for casual entertaining.

Work Completed: Our first suggestion was to replace the existing rear window with French doors which opened up the lovely view into the garden and also provided an additional point of access to the garden terrace. We also blocked an existing internal door into the hall which made the two connected rooms feel more like one. We installed walnut flooring to introduce a warm and homely feel as this is a large room. The lighting scheme was designed with a variety of different settings to suit different moods. The media centre was custom made with backlit shelves which provide a beautiful visual focus when the television is not in use. We divided the room into two areas; the home cinema area which includes the bespoke storage and display units, the Yamamak antique patchwork rug and Flexform Long Island sofa. The area centred around the fireplace was intended as a more adult zone with woodburning stove, glass coffee table, Victor sofa and chaise, Porta Romana lamps and bespoke wool/silk rug. For family and social gatherings the room functions exceptionally well as a single space, both sitting areas being linked through elements of colonial style which were inspired by the Vivienne Westwood wall tapestry.
